Event - Philosophy and conditions

When Jordi Cantal began to travel the PIRINEXUS route of 350 km in summer 2014, he did not know that at the end, deep in the night, he would have created a new challenge thas has already became a legend. In its fourth edition the test is part of the great cycling festival Sea Otter Costa Brava-Girona, to be held in Girona from June 8 to 10, 2018, with the NOVELTY this year will be done in the opposite direction to what was usual, leaving from Girona towards the Costa Brava and returning from the north, after crossing the French border of the Coll d'Ares.

The PIRINEXUS 360 Challenge is currently a personal non-stop challenge of 350km. Participants have 20 hours to make an itinerary that passes through all types of terrain, tarmac roads, many gravel tracks and some urban zones. All bikes are allowed, although probably the most appropriate are the gravel or the cyclo-cross bikes. Road bikes with 28 (or 25) tyres and mountain bikes 29’ wheels with slicks.

Bicycle - The Gravel

NON-STOP Modality
Given the distance of the challenge and the different types of flooring (55% gravel tracks and 45% tarmac roads) it will be ideal to choose a comfortable bicycle, lightweight, stable with a 25 to 32mm tire.
What kind of bikes fall into this definition? Gravel bike, cyclo-cross bike, mountain bike with slicks and a 29” wheel and road resistant bikes with a wheel-arch big enough to mount a 28mm tire.
(The chosen bicycle cannot be swapped throughout the route).
Within this non-stop modality there are different classes depending on the type of bike used.
  • Gravel bike
  • Cyclo-cross bike (or adapted road bike)
  • Mountain bike
  • Single Speed
  • Tandem
  • Other

Support teams

We recommend that participants in non-stop modality may have a Support Team made up of a maximum of two people who accompany them. They get a personal accreditation that will allow them to enter the fair zone, enter the food stations if they want to prepare something special for the participant and a special accreditation for the vehicle so that it can be parked in the reserved area.
